Tyre came by our school today to present us with a large donation to purchase books for our students AND the last two donated books, the classic Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (read by Ray Charles on attached CD), and Spike Lee's Please, baby, please! What a great experience this has been for our students. Thank you Tyre and the many people who donated books, time and money. Our students are thrilled with the books and they will have fantastic home libraries when they get out of school in June.

Ms. Oliverio and Ms. Wilson's classes wrote this thank you note in the library using the smartboard. Everyone was able to sign the letter themselves with our library smartboard.

To end a week of celebrating reading, students in every class were able to select a new book for their home libraries. We gave away over 250 books, helping our students have more to read every day! It was an exciting event and Tyre and his mom were a great help as students chose books and took pictures!

Students sorted the books and were excited about choosing one next week.

JSE Library Leaders who are model readers and library helpers previewed and sorted our like-new paperbacks donated by the JSE Literacy Project. All students will receive a paperback to read over the winter break and will be able to trade that one in or others from home for another when they return.
Two students especially liked the joke books and Junie B. Jones and said it was really hard to wait for the giveaway next week!
We'll keep the reading and sharing going!

Thank you to the Moore family and the wonderful donors! I visited the Moore's home Friday to pick up some of the gently used books which we will be giving to our students next week before they go home for their winter break. Since library books sometimes get lost over vacation, students will return library books and get a wonderful, gently used book to take home and keep! Our school loses less books (and that means more readers for each book) and our students have more books at home! Everybody wins - especially our kids. Thank you! We'll send some pictures of our students with what they'll be reading over our break!

Happy Holidays.
